Follow me on my journey to London as I study abroad this fall. In "A Long December" Counting Crows describes "the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls." I've had enough oysters and it's now my goal to get more pearls.

Life

  1. How do you really feel about what you are doing right now at this exact moment? I like what I'm doing at this moment. I'm thinking and my parents and I aren't fighting.
  2. What is your fondest childhood memory? Who was there? What was going on? One of my favorite memories is going to Holden Beach, NC. We used to go for two weeks each summer; life was so easy then. I was about 8 years old and I went with my family, as well as my neighbors up the street. My aunt came too. I just remember swimming in the ocean with my sister, mom, and aunt and building sandcastles with my dad.
  3. How comfortable are you in your home? I love my room and for the most part I like home. Sometimes I wish I had more personal space.
  4. How comfortable are you in your town/city? State? Again, I like it for the most part. I'm glad I don't go to school here and didn't go to high school here. It's very small town, which is good, but I want more than that. I want to be in the world, on the east coast, in a different country, anything. I want to do something different and exciting everyday, which isn't necessarily something that's possible here. I'm proud of where I'm from though and I'm happy that I grew up here.
  5. What kind of weather do you like? I love fall and winter. I like the activities that you do that time of year and I like the clothes for that time of year. Summer and spring aren't bad, but I just enjoy fall and winter more. I love snow and changing leaves.
  6. Do you believe you can have your cake and eat it, too? Why or why not? Ah that's a tough thing. I think that it's almost like playing with fire, it gets tricky.
  7. What is one quality about your parent(s) that you really loved? I love how much they love me. My mom is a very selfless and determined person and my dad is very hard working and optimistic. They care about me.
  8. What is one quality about your parent(s) that you really do not like? They get wrapped up in their ways - they're both stubborn and sometimes not open to new ideas.
  9. Do you like what you are doing for money? Well right now I don't really have a career. I don't mind either of my jobs though. I like being a ski instructor the most :)
  10. What do you feel is your greatest skill? Also, I think I'm a pretty good writer  although I know I could improve a lot.
  11. What do you feel is your greatest personality trait?  I believe that I'm good at including everyone and making sure that everyone feels included. It's awful to feel like you're not welcome or that people are making fun of you, and I really try my hardest to make sure neither of those happen.
  12. Do you feel like anything in your life is holding you back from ultimate joy? List everything. I'm too emotionally irrational. When something negative happens, I immediately get wrapped up in it and I think about it too much, it definitely holds me back from thinking about positive things. Sometimes I think I'm too selfish and I regret it later. Also I think that in my past things (like good grades) have come easily to me without me having to try and now sometimes I don't work as hard because I think that things will come to me. So I guess that means I lack motivation at times.
  13. Write a paragraph or two about your ideal weekend/time away from work. Include location, sights, smells, food, activities, and people. I don't really have one. I just want to be happy and enjoy my company, and hopefully have something interesting happen so I can write about it.
  14. How close are you in proximity to the people you absolutely adore the most? I adore my sister the most, and she's downstairs right now. I adore my parents, even though they get on my nerves a lot. They're downstairs also. I love my grandma, she's about an hour away.
  15. What do you want out of life? I want to be happy and I want to make other people happy. I want to be able to write and travel and spend time with my family.
  16. How do you think people will remember you, when you die? Well I don't really want to think about death, but I think that people who have met me will remember me as someone who was passionate, involved, and cared about people. Oh and liked to have fun.
  17. How do you want people to remember you, when you die? I want people who have met me to remember me as someone who cared about other people's happiness. I also want to be remembered as a hard worker, passionate and determined.
  18. Write your epitaph - the sentence you would want to appear on your grave. Ah no death yet
  19. What is one thing you could do today, this week, this month, or this year to get a step closer to creating the legacy in #17? I could do what my parents want me to do tonight, and give them both a hug.
  20. How do you feel about your home furnishings? It's pretty, but cluttered.
  21. Do you have a hobby that you like to do but you don’t get paid for? What is it? Writing
  22. Does money hold you back from anything? What does it hold you back from? Be very specific. Unfortunately, it does. It holds me back from experiences I think. For example I wish I had more money when I'm going to London this fall. Also I think it causes a lot of fights in my family.
  23. What do you think of passionate people? Having a passion for something is really valuable and sometimes hard to come by. I admire passionate people.
  24. Do you know anyone who you feel is living their dream? Who? What do they do all day and night? Be very specific. I think I'm living the dream that I have at this time. This past year has been amazing for me: I got involved with the newspaper, which is something I love; I became an English major and get to read and write as much as I want; I started writing on a more regular basis and make time for it; I made a lot of new friends in Pi Phi and kept the ones I still had from last year; I spent a lot of time with my family that I should have been doing for the past few years; I'm studying in another country in 2 weeks, which is something I've always wanted to do; in general, I just feel free. I feel like I'm doing exactly what I want to do and the people in my life are helping me to do so.
  25. Do you think you can be completely satisfied living where you do right now? I don't think so, I think I'll always want more in life than just living here.

I found these questions on Living Legacy by Tia Peterson, 50 Questions to Ask Yourself. I didn't have time for all 50.
